Varicella-zoster Virus IgM ELISA Kit

Short Description:

Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV), a human pathogenic herpesvirus like HSV, CMV and EBV, causes chickenpox and herpes zoster. After childhood chickenpox, the virus lurks in nerves and reactivates as shingles when immunity weakens. Severe complications include bacterial infections, pneumonia, encephalitis, and others. Prenatal infection may lead to congenital syndromes, and perinatal infection is fatal (30% mortality). Transmitted via droplets or contaminants, VZV is worldwide, seasonal in mild climates (autumn/winter). Most preschoolers are infected, with 95% adults seropositive.

Principle

This kit detects Varicella-Zoster virus IgM antibody (VZV-IgM) in human serum/plasma. Polystyrene microwell strips are pre-coated with anti-human IgM (anti-μ chain) antibodies. Upon adding the specimen, IgM antibodies are captured, with unbound components (including IgG) removed by washing. Next, HRP-conjugated VZV antigens specifically bind to captured VZV-IgM. After washing away unbound conjugates, chromogen solutions (TMB substrate) are added. The (anti-μ)-(VZV-IgM)-(VZV-Ag-HRP) immunocomplex catalyzes TMB to form a blue product, which turns yellow upon adding Stop Solution. Absorbance is measured by a microplate reader to determine VZV-IgM presence, enabling rapid detection of recent VZV infection via specific IgM antibody capture and enzymatic color development.
